Best Middle-Grade/Picture Books of 2021

2021 is what I would call the year of middle-grade/picture books and the year of incredible women’s biographies.

I’m going to highlight my favorites below.

Best Middle Grade

Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga

A great read that would make an optimal book to read with your children.

I’ve been dabbling into reading some middle-grade books this past year. I really, really enjoyed this one. It’s beautifully written and timely.

The internet says:
Reading age: 8 – 12 years.
Grade level: 3 – 7.

Though you should read it to see if it would be appropriate for your kids and at what ages. I feel this book is more on the younger side of middle grade, but I was always reading way above my age and grade level, so I’m not really sure.

Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper

I adored this one. It’s such an important book and look at how we should treat people who are different. This is a really important, imaginative, and creative novel.

It was very thought-provoking.

The internet says:
Reading age: 9 – 12 years.
Grade level: 5 – 9.

You should read it to see if it would be appropriate for your kids and at what ages. I feel this book is more on the middle side of middle grade, but I was always reading way above my age and grade level, so I’m not really sure.

Picture Books

For this section, I’ll simply post the covers. But these are some great ones that people should check out, and they represent a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds. I think adults would enjoy these ones too.
