Like Folklore, I love evermore. It’s a great album—another one of my favorites. I love the folksy feel of these albums. These two are probably arguably my most listened to and longest-listened-to. I love all the eras, but I was a huge fan of this one.
I listen to the clean version of this album, too. I mention this solely because some of the lyrics are different in the other versions.
17. closure- It sounds like complete chaos at first, which is not my favorite. But it still has some good lines.
16. tolerate it- A really sad song. I enjoy it, but I don’t listen to it a ton because of that.
15. happiness- This one is also very sad, just like tolerate it. I like it, but I don’t listen to it a ton.
14. long story short- It’s catchy and has a knack of getting stuck in my head. I enjoy it.
13. gold rush- There are parts I love and parts I like less, but I enjoy this one on the whole.
12. dorothea- This is one that I really like. I’m not sure why, but I love the storytelling here. It’s musically good both lyrically and sonically.
11. it’s time to go- This is perhaps one of my favorite bonus songs Taylor has released. I like the storytelling here as well. It’s an interesting one.
10. ’tis the damn season- Love this one. It’s catchy, and also has a knack of getting stuck in my head. I think it’s interesting lyrically and musically.
9. marjorie- This one has some great lyrics. Particularly the couplets. “Never be so kind you forget to be clever. Never be so clever you forget to be kind.” and “Never be so polite you forget your power. Never wield such power you forget to be polite.” An interesting song about relationships.
The next three are neck and neck. On any given day, my rankings would change.
8. coney island- Even though I ranked “evermore” higher, this is one of my favorite duets from this era. My favorite is probably “exile” and then this one. I like Taylor’s part of evermore more which is why I rated it higher, but I actually dislike Bon Iver’s part on that song. I think this is one of the most lyrically interesting and well-written from this album.
7. ivy- This one is in that lower register I love. I enjoy the storytelling here. Does anybody else think of the 1600s-1800s England when they listen to this? Just me. There are also some really interesting lyrics here.
6. evermore- I love Taylor’s part here. I don’t love Bon Iver’s part. I’ve enjoyed him on other tracks, but I don’t love it here. However, I do love Taylor’s part. I think this one is very interesting lyrically. Some really great gems of lines here.
5. no body, no crime- This song has always been super fun for me! I love a good mystery, crime story as much as anybody else I guess. But I also like the musical choices here. Jon is convinced this is my favorite. It’s not, but it is good. It is the one auto-Apple shuffle seems to love to play.
4. right where you left me- Arguably, my favorite bonus song she has ever released. I love the lyrics and imagery of this one. It’s in that lower register I love too.
3. willow- The single from this album for a reason. I know a lot say Taylor doesn’t choose her singles correctly. I think she did on this album. It’s musically and lyrically kind of the linchpin of this era. I like the way this one sounds a lot. The lyrics are good, but the power of this comes from the music.
2. champagne problems- The fact I like this one so much probably says a lot about my character haha. Something about sad love stories I guess. I think this one is Taylor storytelling and lyricism at some of its best.
1. cowboy like me- This wins out for me because I think it’s the best lyrically and musically. I like the background, the lyrics, and the storytelling. Kind of a Bonnie and Clyde type feel. This song snuck up on me, so did champagne problems, but I really enjoy both. This one sets such an interesting scene and conjures intriguing characters. I’m here for it.
Very nice
